How to export flashcards from Anki

Anki exports flashcards as TXT. You can export your own decks and shared decks from other users. Follow the 3 steps below — or scroll down to download a sample export file.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open deck options
    Open Anki and find your deck. Click the gear icon next to the deck.

  2. Select export
    From the dropdown menu, click Export.

  3. Export file
    In the export window, keep or adjust the export settings, then click Export... to save the file.

Convert your Anki export to Excel or PDF

Anki exports as a plain TXT file. It does not export Excel (XLSX) or PDF directly, but you can convert the TXT in a few steps:

TXT → Excel

  1. Open Excel and choose Data → From Text/CSV (or just open the .txt file).
  2. Pick the delimiter your export uses — usually Tab or Comma.
  3. Confirm, and your cards land in two columns. Save as .xlsx.

TXT → PDF

  1. Open the .txt file in any text editor or browser.
  2. Choose Print and select Save as PDF as the printer.
